Boeing 707 is tested for commercial flight

Officials from the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) conducted initial tests on a B707 jet transport to evaluate its integration into air traffic control and navigation systems. The tests included various approaches under low visibility conditions and simulated transcontinental flights. The B707's performance, especially at low altitudes, was praised. Several airlines have already ordered these jets, which can fly coast to coast in five hours and from New York to London in seven hours. The tests mark the beginning of the jet transport age in commercial aviation, expected to fully emerge by 1959.
