A team at the Australian National University has developed insect-based flight technology that NASA plans to use for Mars exploration. This technology uses a single camera to mimic an insect's vision, allowing aircraft to maintain distance from objects and the ground. NASA representatives were impressed by the test flights in Canberra and plan to use this technology in their 2007 Mars mission. A final demonstration of the Micro Flyer is scheduled in the Arctic in two years.
