NYC To Close Around 100 Public Schools Over Coronavirus Spike

Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered restrictions in nine ZIP codes in Brooklyn and Queens after a spike in COVID-19 cases. Mayor Bill de Blasio had requested these measures due to the rapid spread of the virus, particularly in neighborhoods with large Orthodox Jewish populations. While de Blasio pushed for closing nonessential businesses, Cuomo allowed them to remain open for now. Houses of worship are also permitted to stay open.
