Converting a Standard Car into a Hybrid Electric Petrol Vehicle

The University of Southampton has converted a standard car into a hybrid electric petrol vehicle. The car features a small petrol engine that runs at a constant speed, driving a generator to charge lithium ion batteries. These batteries power an electric motor, allowing the car to operate at peak efficiency and achieve low fuel consumption rates. The vehicle can travel 100 kilometers on just over 1 liter of petrol and reach speeds of 120 km/h. It also benefits from design advantages such as the absence of a gearbox and flexible battery placement. Development of the vehicle is ongoing.
