Jaime Castillo Petrucci, a Chilean involved with the Peruvian MRTA, was imprisoned for 23 years for terrorism, including kidnapping and murder. After his release, he was expelled from Peru and returned to Chile. Castillo's political journey began in the 1960s with the Chilean MIR, and he later joined the MRTA in the 1980s. His release was conditional on not returning to Peru. The MRTA gained international attention for a high-profile hostage situation at the Japanese embassy in Lima.
