For many years, superstitions barred women from working in Colombian mines, believing they brought bad luck. Rosalba Cañón, who arrived in Muso 30 years ago, was among those affected. In 2015, Colombia lifted restrictions, allowing women to formally enter the mining industry. Zayda Cañizales is now a supervisor, showcasing the progress women have made. The industry, producing millions of carats, now offers better economic opportunities for women, with significant export revenues. This change allows women to dream of a better future, previously denied to them.
