During the war, women transitioned from domestic roles to working in factories, producing weapons and ammunition. This work was hazardous, leading to health issues such as skin discoloration from chemical exposure. These women were nicknamed the Canary Girls due to their yellowed skin, reminiscent of the yellow bird.
