Shanghai, a major seaport and the world's fourth largest city, is experiencing a massive exodus as the Chinese Communist Army advances to isolate it. The Wang Pool River, a key route to the sea, is filled with ships carrying both foreigners and Chinese away from the city. Nationalist army units are also retreating in the face of the advancing Red forces, while panic-stricken evacuees overcrowd any available ship to escape.
