George V crowned King of United Kingdom and Emperor of India in 1911

George V of England participated in his father King Edward's funeral procession. His aspirations for a legal career were thwarted by the deaths of his father and brother, Prince Albert, during an influenza epidemic. This placed George in direct line for the throne, leading to his marriage to Princess Mary of Teck. He took his coronation vows and accepted the role of Emperor of India in 1911.
