French Court Overturns Cardinal's Conviction In Sex Abuse Case

Cardinal Philippe Barbarin was convicted for covering up child sex abuse allegations within his diocese. Initially sentenced to a six-month suspended sentence, Barbarin's conviction was overturned on appeal due to lack of evidence of intentional cover-up. Despite learning of the allegations in 2014, he took no action until public exposure in 2015. The victims plan to appeal the acquittal.
