Traffic Deaths Soar In 2020 To Highest Level In 13 Years

In the past year, traffic deaths rose by the largest margin in 13 years, with 36,680 fatalities, marking a 7% increase from 2019. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration attributes this rise to fewer people on the road, leading to more speeding, driving under the influence, and not wearing seatbelts. Despite the increase in deaths, miles traveled by vehicles decreased by 13% in 2020 compared to 2019.
