Leopoldo López, a prominent Venezuelan opposition leader, surrendered to the police after appearing at an anti-government rally in Caracas. The city experienced heightened tensions with two major marches, one supporting President Nicolás Maduro and another led by López. The protests, ongoing for two weeks, have resulted in three deaths and numerous injuries. López, a Harvard-educated economist with a significant political career, had been in hiding since the government issued a warrant for his arrest. He announced his intention to surrender in a video released prior to the rally.
