In the early hours of Wednesday, French special police forces surrounded a building in Toulouse to capture Mohamed Mera, a 24-year-old suspect of Algerian origin linked to seven deaths in Toulouse and Montauban. Mera, who claims ties to Al-Qaeda, opened fire on the police, injuring three officers. He has spent time in Afghanistan and Pakistan and is associated with extremist groups. The police aim to capture him alive for interrogation. Mera was identified after a school attack that resulted in four deaths, including three children, following the murder of three paratroopers the previous week.
