Longtime TV Journalist And 'PBS NewsHour' Anchor Jim Lehrer Has Died

Jim Lehrer, co-founder of PBS News Hour, anchored the show for 36 years before retiring in 2011. He was celebrated for his contributions to journalism, earning numerous accolades, including the National Humanities Medal. Lehrer moderated more presidential debates than anyone in U.S. history and authored 20 novels, three memoirs, and four plays. He studied journalism at the University of Missouri and served in the US Marine Corps before reporting in Dallas, where he covered the JFK assassination. Lehrer transitioned to television, co-founding PBS News Hour. He is remembered for his integrity and dedication to public service, survived by his wife, three daughters, and six grandchildren.
