Boy Scouts Of America Files For Bankruptcy Protection

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to establish a compensation fund for sexual abuse victims, temporarily halting ongoing lawsuits. CEO Roger Mosby expressed hope that the process would provide equitable compensation while preserving BSA's mission. Historical records reveal over 12,000 children were abused by more than 7,800 leaders from 1944 to 2016. BSA's membership has declined from over 4 million in the 1970s to under 2 million, partly due to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' departure. The bankruptcy is expected to have minimal impact on local troops, which are financially independent.
