Shanghai, China's largest city, is implementing sector-based lockdowns to curb rising COVID-19 cases driven by the Omicron variant. Starting Monday, the eastern half of the city, including Pudong, will be locked down for five days for mass testing, followed by the western half from April 1. Despite lower case numbers compared to other countries, this surge is the highest in China since the pandemic began in Wuhan in 2019.
