In 2017, global wage growth reached its lowest point since the 2008 financial crisis, with a real wage increase of 1.8%. Despite economic recovery and low unemployment in developed G-20 countries, wage growth remained slow. The UN highlighted the persistent gender pay gap, with women earning 20% less than men for equal work. Parenthood further exacerbates wage disparities, as men with children earn more than mothers. The gender pay gap is more pronounced in higher-paying jobs in wealthy countries.
