The Genesis spacecraft was launched to collect solar wind particles to study the Sun's composition and the origins of the solar system. After a three-year mission, the spacecraft returned to Earth, but a parachute failure caused the capsule to crash in Utah. Despite the crash, scientists hope to retrieve valuable data. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the mishap, with a battery failure suspected. A similar mission is planned for 2006.
