Ford Introduces Hybrid Taxi Fleet to New York City

Ford Motor Company has introduced a small fleet of hybrid taxis in New York City as part of its initiative to promote cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles. Initially, six Ford Escape hybrids will be added to the city's taxi fleet, with plans to convert the entire fleet of 13,000 vehicles to hybrids within five years. The Ford hybrid offers significant fuel efficiency, achieving 6.53 liters per 100 kilometers, which is double the current rate of the Ford Crown Victoria taxis. This efficiency allows drivers to save an average of $20 per shift on fuel costs, although fares will remain the same as other taxis.
