Ferdinand Magellan set out in 1519 to find a westward route to the Spice Islands. Despite facing numerous challenges, including navigating through the Strait of Magellan and crossing the Pacific Ocean, his expedition marked the first circumnavigation of the Earth. Although Magellan was killed in the Philippines, his ship, the Victoria, returned to Spain, proving the world is round and bringing back valuable spices.
