The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning about a potential shortage of syringes, which could result in a deficit of up to 2 billion by 2022 if production does not keep pace with COVID-19 vaccine doses. This shortage could delay routine vaccinations and impact public health for years, especially if a generation of children misses their regular vaccines. The reuse of syringes, which are meant for single use, poses additional health risks. As of now, over 7.25 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered globally, nearly double the annual number of vaccines typically given, highlighting the increased demand for syringes.
