Uqba was thrilled with the task, recalling his past efforts in spreading Islam among the Berbers. He began his military actions by securing the allegiance of the Lawata tribe and found the people of Barqa still practicing Islam. Uqba continued his mission, significantly increasing the number of Muslims. After two years, Amr passed away, leaving Uqba deeply saddened.
