Dutch ocean liner Klipfontein sinks off the coast of Mozambique after striking an unknown object

The Dutch liner Klipfontein sank after hitting a submerged object in the Mozambique Channel. With 116 passengers and 118 crew members aboard, the rescue operation was a dramatic spectacle. Initially, many thought it was a drill, unaware of the real danger. The ship carried valuable cargo, including 1,000 tons of electrolytic copper. The Blumfontein Castle assisted in rescuing the passengers and crew. Despite losing their belongings, the rescued individuals were relieved to be safe.
