VOICED : Guatemala intenta evitar la extinción del "Niño Dormido", un lagarto venenoso

The Eloderma Charles Boguerti, a lizard native to eastern Guatemala, is endangered due to myths about its venom and illegal trafficking. Known locally as 'niño dormido', it faces threats from habitat loss due to agriculture, fires, and climate change. Conservation efforts by CONAP and other organizations aim to protect its habitat and prevent extinction, with the species listed as endangered by the IUCN. Population estimates have increased from 200 to around 600 adults in the wild, many of which are tracked with identification chips.
