Japan's economy has experienced growth for eight consecutive quarters, marking the longest expansion since the late 1980s. However, the growth rate slowed to 0.1% in the last quarter of 2017 compared to 0.6% in the previous quarter. Overall, the economy grew by 1.6% in 2017, up from 0.9% in 2016. Minister Toshimitsu Motegi highlighted the stability of this growth, contrasting it with the volatile expansion bubble of the 1980s. The growth has been driven by exports, global economic recovery, and government policies known as Abenomics, as well as infrastructure investments for the 2020 Olympics.
