The US, France, and the UK warned Syria of consequences if it fails to comply with chemical disarmament obligations. The foreign ministers of these countries met in Paris before the UN inspectors' report on the August 21 massacre near Damascus. They urged the UN Security Council to adopt a strong resolution to enforce disarmament, with severe consequences for non-compliance. French Foreign Minister Logan Fabius announced an upcoming international meeting in New York with the Syrian National Coalition. Fabius will also meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow. However, Russia warned that a resolution threatening Syria could jeopardize the peace process.
