In Ciudad de Guatemala, a riot at a juvenile correctional facility resulted in the deaths of two inmates. The riot, demanding better treatment, saw nearly 50 inmates captured after barricading themselves on a rooftop. Some inmates escaped but were later apprehended by police. The riot was controlled using tear gas, and several inmates were injured when part of the roof collapsed. Family members attempted to persuade the inmates to end the riot. A previous riot in April involved demands for conjugal visits and stoves.
