Mauricio Macri is the first liberal right leader elected in Argentina, succeeding 12 years of center-left governance by the Kirchners. He promises economic liberalization and anti-corruption measures. Macri, from a wealthy family, was a businessman and led Boca Juniors before entering politics. As Buenos Aires mayor, he modernized the city. Despite his right-leaning stance, he is unlikely to radically shift from popular social policies established during the Kirchner era.
