Between 2017 and 2018, Uber received nearly 6,000 reports of sexual assaults in the U.S., including 464 rape allegations. The company, under pressure alongside Lyft, published a safety report revealing these figures. Despite an increase in reports in three out of five categories, the overall incident rate decreased due to more rides being taken. Additionally, Uber reported 10 service-related deaths in 2017 and nine in 2018, with 97 fatal accidents resulting in 107 deaths over the two years.
