Argentina received authorization from the Gamaleya Institute to produce the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine. The Russian Direct Investment Fund and Argentine laboratory Richmond announced that the locally produced vaccine will be available next week after quality control tests. This comes after Argentina's complaints about delays in receiving the second dose. Richmond plans to produce over three million doses in August and will start supplying 150,000 doses to the government. Argentina has an agreement with Russia for 30 million doses but has received less than 12 million. Sputnik V was the first COVID-19 vaccine registered globally, and Argentina was the first Latin American country to approve it. Despite being approved in 69 countries, it lacks WHO approval. Argentina is accelerating its vaccination campaign due to the delta variant threat and is conducting trials to mix vaccines to replace the second Sputnik V dose with AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, or Moderna.
