After end of Korean War, released US POWs returning to US arrive in San Francisco

The Navy Transport General Nelson M. Walker arrives in San Francisco with 328 American servicemen, the first group of returnees from Korean P.W. camps. Relatives from 25 states gather for emotional reunions with their loved ones, some of whom they haven't seen in up to three years. San Francisco's Mayor Elmer Robinson and Lieutenant General Joseph M. Swing welcome P.F.C. Roosevelt A. Lunn, the first man off the ship. The veterans, who endured war and captivity, are greeted with tears and joy. Most will be sent to camps near their homes for further processing and discharge, leaving the horrors of communist prison camps behind.
