The disaster resulted in 20 deaths and 431 injuries, with 18 seriously hurt. The epicenter was in Yushaigu, a difficult-to-access region on the Tibetan plateau known for its natural beauty. Approximately 50,000 tourists, including 126 foreigners and 9,000 locals, were evacuated. Authorities are waiting for aftershocks to cease before allowing people to return home. Firefighters suspect that 16 tourists may still be trapped near a lake in the natural reserve.
