Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries for journalists, with Veracruz being particularly deadly. Many journalists face threats from drug cartels and corrupt politicians, forcing them into exile, often to the USA. The report highlights concerns about Donald Trump's hostile attitude towards the press, which could set a negative example globally. Between 2000 and 2017, 99 journalists were killed in Mexico, with 19 in Veracruz.
