Why Do We Drink Eggnog?

Eggnog, a popular holiday drink, is enjoyed by many during the festive season. Its origins trace back to a medieval British drink called Posset, which was a mix of curdled hot milk and ale or wine. Over time, monks added eggs, making it a drink for the upper class due to the cost of ingredients. Eggnog made its way to the US, becoming associated with the holiday season. While variations exist, including George Washington's strong version, many prefer it without alcohol today. The FDA requires only 1% egg yolk solids in official eggnog, allowing for creative recipes.
