Capital Gazette Shooting Suspect Changes Plea To Guilty

Jared Ramos, who attacked the Capital Gazette newsroom, changed his plea to guilty, focusing his trial on his mental state at the time of the shooting. While the Maryland Department of Health deemed him legally sane, conflicting opinions exist. Ramos had previously lost a defamation lawsuit against the Gazette, which he blamed for his actions. On June 28, 2018, he attacked the newsroom with a shotgun and smoke grenades, later surrendering to police. Evidence included a note and a CD with employee photos. Jury selection is set to begin, with the trial scheduled for November.
