Early US military airplanes in 1917, and Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker in 1921

In 1917, Rick was considered too old at 26 to train as a combat pilot by the Air Force. However, with the assistance of Colonel Billy Mitchell, whom he served as a chauffeur and aide, Rick joined the Aero core and led the 94th Aero Squadron. He became a leading American combat ace, credited with downing 22 German planes.
