The appeal trial of Illich Ramírez Sánchez, known as Carlos El Chacal, began in Paris. He was sentenced to life in 2017 for a 1974 attack in Saint Germain. A prominent figure in pro-Palestinian armed groups, he requested Isabel Cután Peyre as his court-appointed lawyer, who has defended him for decades and married him in 2011. The court denied a defense request to postpone the trial due to lack of access to case files. This is the last trial for Carlos El Chacal, who is already serving two life sentences for a 1975 triple homicide and four bombings in the 1980s, resulting in 11 deaths and 191 injuries.
