On Tuesday, Costa Rica witnessed its first same-sex marriage as a lesbian couple wed after the national ban was lifted. Marco Castillo and Rodrigo Campo also married, marking the first courthouse same-sex marriage. The Supreme Court had deemed the ban unconstitutional in 2018, leading to automatic legalization on May 26. Costa Rica is the first in Central America and sixth in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage. President Carlos Alvarado Quesada highlighted the social and cultural transformation this change brings.
