After over a year in captivity, 16 Lebanese soldiers and police were released by Al-Qaeda in Syria in exchange for 13 prisoners and humanitarian aid. The exchange took place in Arsán, near the Lebanon-Syria border. The Red Cross transported the freed hostages to a military checkpoint, and they were later welcomed in Beirut by the Prime Minister. The hostages were part of a group captured in 2014, with some executed and others still held by ISIS. The hometown of the released announced a week-long celebration.
