Jersey City Fire Loss 25 Million, Waterfront Fire

A devastating fire consumed eight square blocks of shipping and storage space, causing $25 million in damages. Heroic firefighting efforts prevented further destruction of a warehouse filled with valuable commodities. Despite these efforts, 16 freight cars and 200 cattle were lost. The fire, which caused $20 million in damage to a warehouse, is believed to have been started by a discarded cigarette, with sabotage ruled out.
