The official height of Mount Everest is now 8,848 meters and 86 centimeters, ending a long-standing debate between China and Nepal. The new measurement includes the snow cap, unlike China's previous measurement of the rocky base. Nepal conducted its own study after tectonic activity, including a 2015 earthquake, suggested a change in height. Both countries averaged their findings to reach a scientifically agreed-upon height.
