The white rhinoceros is the largest rhino species and the second largest land animal after the elephant. Despite their name, they are grey, not white. The name 'white' is believed to be a mistranslation of the Africans word for 'wide,' referring to their mouth. Adult males can weigh up to 7920 pounds and measure 11 to 15 feet in length. They have a large muscle hump on their neck and shoulders to support their heavy head, which can weigh up to 1000 pounds.
