Tanning beds have been classified as a top cancer risk, comparable to arsenic and mustard gas. Initially introduced in the 1970s for cosmetic and some therapeutic uses, their health benefits are overshadowed by significant risks. Using tanning beds even occasionally increases the likelihood of developing Melanoma. Studies indicate a 75% increased risk of skin cancer for those starting before age 30. Despite claims of safe tanning, UV rays from tanning beds are harmful and can be stronger than natural sunlight. The addiction to tanning, known as tanorexia, poses additional risks. Overall, tanning beds are more dangerous than natural sun exposure.
