The Aeronet project, led by a project scientist, is a small program designed to measure aerosol concentrations and properties using a network of Sun photometers. It plays a crucial role in validating satellite data by measuring energy at different atmospheric levels. Aeronet data is also vital for land surface and ocean studies, helping to correct satellite imagery and analyze ocean color. With around 450 sites worldwide, Aeronet is well-distributed across various ecosystems. The project is expected to expand significantly due to its cost-effectiveness, providing valuable data for NASA and global research.
