After being accused of corruption and losing immunity, former Guatemalan President Oto Pérez resigned and was ordered to be detained in a military facility due to flight risk concerns. Alejandro Maldonado, his former vice president, replaced him as president. Pérez intends to challenge the charges of corruption, illicit association, customs fraud, and passive bribery in court.
