A group of Brazilian senators, aligned with Dilma Rousseff's government, traveled to Caracas to meet with Venezuelan opposition leaders. They met with members of the Voluntad Popular party, led by imprisoned leader Leopoldo López. The senators proposed that a Brazilian congressional commission observe the upcoming Venezuelan legislative elections. The opposition appreciated the gesture but requested that the Organization of American States and the European Union also be invited as observers. Meanwhile, the National Electoral Council invited Unasur to accompany the elections.
