VOICED : Victima de abuso en Chile celebra expulsion de cura Karadima

José Andrés Murillo, a victim of sexual abuse by Chilean priest Fernando Caradima, expressed his surprise and satisfaction at Pope Francis's decision to expel Caradima from the priesthood. Murillo highlighted the power dynamics within the Church that protect abusers and called for change. Caradima, who was previously suspended for life by the Vatican in 2011 for abusing minors in the 1980s and 1990s, could not be legally prosecuted due to the statute of limitations. The Chilean clergy, including Archbishop Ricardo Esati, faces numerous allegations of sexual abuse and cover-ups, with 119 cases currently open in the Chilean justice system.
