Inside the Eastern State Penitentiary

Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, designed by John Haviland, was built in 1829 with a radial plan for surveillance. It aimed to reform inmates through solitary confinement, but faced issues like overcrowding and mental illness. Despite over 100 escape attempts, only Leo Callahan succeeded. Notable inmates included Willie Sutton and Al Capone. Now a museum, it offers guided tours, showcasing its historical ruins.
