VOICED: Rappers take a stand against Somali militants

Young Somali rappers, armed with a drum machine and their vocal talents, use hip hop to oppose Islamic extremism from neighboring Kenya. The group, known as Yaha Cusip, was formed in 2004 and quickly gained attention for their lyrics against Somali warlords. Their music, recorded in Nairobi, reaches Somalia through pirated CDs and the internet, despite the risks involved. Members face dangers, including shootings and stabbings, but remain motivated to make a difference for their homeland, even if they cannot return.
