Wendy Valenzuela, a 25-year-old who identifies as a travesti, won the Miss Gay El Salvador pageant, representing the Central Department of La Paz. Her victory aims to promote tolerance and visibility for the LGBTI community in El Salvador, despite ongoing discrimination. The event was sponsored by Somos Familia, an organization supporting LGBTI rights through social projects. The pageant's goal is to highlight the sexual diversity community. According to Concavis Trans, over 600 LGBTI members have been murdered in El Salvador since 1993, with seven homicides in 2019, four of whom were transgender women.
